Tracking

Cedrik has made up a new game.  He tracks monsters with a roll of wrapping paper and a bowling pin stuffed in the end.  When he finds the monster he somehow launches the bowling pin out and "hits" the monster.   What an imagination.  Freddie watches and ignores.

He has a camping trailor underneath the end table and made a bed out of pillows for he and Freddie to camp, or lay on and look out the window.

Freddie is pretty good at appeasing Cedrik's whims but he is getting his own ideas and if he doesn't want to join him,  he makes that known, dramatically.

Gas Planets and Pluto

This week we did school two days.  We finished up the planets with Jupiter (which we learned smells like rotten eggs and window cleaner - has 4 rings - and the most moons).  Saturn has thousands of rings (obviously) and is second in line for the most moons.  Uranus and Neptune are blue because of the methane (which is odorless).  Uranus' rings are vertical and it has the biggest storms of all the planets (I would assume this excludes the huge storm on Jupiter that sucks in the other storms that pass it).  Pluto is now a dwarf planet and its atmosphere collapses as it gets father from the sun, and therefore colder very cool and we were able to use our hands to show this.

He painted and colored and now that our solar system is complete I need to get it hung up.  He glued rice and beans to make Jupiter and Freddie's had only white rice and three beans on it.  Jordan remembered the Google sky app that shows constellations, planets, etc and Cedrik likes looking through it.

Next week we study the moon and lately it has been bright and beautiful.

Our Halloween

We carved a pumpkin. Cedrik wanted a scary face carved into it.  I baked the pumpkin seeds and they are kind of a hit.

We went to the trunk or treat for the first time.  Neither of us realized that bringing candy was a choice-we thought everyone brought candy.  The boys' costumes were a hit and although they act excited in private, in public they both don't show any emotion.  Cedrik talked really quietly and Freddie didn't say a word the whole time.  After, we went to Donna's and went to a couple houses on her street but their costumes were starting to get  heavy from all the candy. Then Freddie fell.  They each had a couple pieces of candy and then we headed home.

Planets

We did two days of school this week.  They were a little shorter than normal but we are learning about the planets/solar system.

So far he has learned about Mercury, Venus and Mars (we spent a whole month on Earth).  We also learned about comets, asteroids, and meteorites.

He glued/glittered a comet and we made a comet from sand and ice.  We are making a solar system to hang from our dining room light and when it's done I'll post that.  He learned that mercury is dead and has continually called it the dead planet all week.  He learned if he stood on mercury he wouldn't be able to hear.  I had him plug his ears then I mouthed words (and made it look like I was yelling them)  to him and when he unplugged his ears I asked if he could hear me, he thought it was really cool that he couldn't.  We did a volcano with baking soda and vinegar and talked about Venus being the hottest and brightest planet.  Venus happens to be out now and last night Cedrik got to see it.  Really cool.

Next week we'll attempt the last of the planets.
