Seeds

Our St Patrick's Day pots were a great transition for our study of seeds.

Also, at last weeks Relief Society activity, they had left over kids growing kits. I grabbed a cucumber kit and a cosmo kit.  Freddie has the flowers and literally two days after we planted them they sprouted and the next day we had to take the lid off.  They grow fast (its a miracle grow kit!).

Cedrik was a seed and grew into a strawberry plant.  His invisible strawberries were yummy (Freddie ate a lot).

We found the seeds in our house, surprisingly, there are quite a few.  We learned (me too! It was a completely "duh" moment) that beans are seeds.  Way to go me. They ate lots of seeds this week and they love walnuts.

They guessed how many seeds were in an apple.  9, in the one we cut open.

I had some seed nomenclature cards and we also did some "organizing," as I call it of living vs non-living things because Cedrik talks about death a lot (it really is classifying, but in the moment I always forget the word and he loves to organize things).  He actually really understood the concept, I was surprised.

On Friday morning we painted with seeds.  The walnut seed, in my opinion, made the coolest designs.  Cedrik said the pumpkin seed was his favorite.  :/ They ended up painting their entire bodies and Freddie melted down because they had to shower.

Books: The Boy Who Grew Flowers (our favorite-Cedrik and I drew the boy, with flowers growing out of his head), research books,  From Seed to Sunflower, One Red Apple (beautiful!), Dirt on Their Skirts (baseball book, but still fun).

SEEDS!

Although my mom doesn't like it....I cut my hair.  :)

Cedriks 24th birthday

Today Cedrik decided it was his 24th birthday.  We had chocolate chip pancakes to celebrate.  Then we did some meditation. We learned a little more about seeds and then watched frozen.  Awesome 24th Birthday!

Frederick Morris

"HI Eloisey. How are you? I like your toes!"

Freddie doesn't get talked about too much. Maybe that's because Cedrik is older, and demands more attention. But he does exist and he is by my side all day long.

He has found his voice. He has realized he is his own person. This is exciting and frustrating. He has become defiant. He knows how to get Cedrik in trouble (by whining and crying). He takes everything in before doing anything (which is hard when three of us are really good at hurrying). He will NOT go fast because you ask/tell/threaten him. He walks almost everywhere unless there is food involved or he forgot that he needs to use the bathroom.

He eats SO much at every meal.  Correction: he inhales SO much at every meal. Freddie loves food, especially pizza and fruit snacks.  I have a soft spot for him. He is my little baby.  And when I ask what he wants from the store, he asks for "George treats." My mom always buys fruit snacks and Freddie loves them.  I can't turn him down.(I found some without HFCS-which is really hard!) He bites holes in bags to get to food.  He climbs on drawers or gets chairs/stools for food.  He will stop at nothing for food.

I can't figure out if he is color blind or if he just doesn't care about learning colors.

He knows every word to "I am a Child of God." He loves singing the 5th article of faith.

He loves to sit on me when I meditate.
He loves to prepare food.

He loves his boots. LOVES. He also likes wearing everyone else's.

He doesn't care about kisses. He loves to snuggle and he loves soft touches (Jordy Jr!!).

He says the sweetest prayers and blesses everything individually that we are going to be putting in our mouths.

He doesn't like to watch TV. He does like Thomas, but not for very long.

When he starts getting upset with Cedrik its because he needs his own time with me. I have been learning that cue.

He is really a smart kid. It shows even more when he ignores because it isn't something that he wants to do. He is a white. It is hard being a white in a red/blue house. He teaches Jordan and I LOADS of patience.

He loves music.

He wishes he could hold Eloise more often. He less to color and loves pretending to be animals. His imagination is already showing. He is so easy going when we let him take his time.  He is a really good boy.

St. Patrick's Day

This St Patricks Day was wonderful.

We first read St. Patrick's Day in the Morning. Really great book.

The boys helped me make Irish soda farls. It was messy and fun.  They tasted pretty good.  The boys loved them.  They were topped with strawberry jam and even Jordan (who doesn't like jam, thought they were pretty good).

Cedrik called my mom and thanked her for having Irish in her blood. And during the breakfast prayer he thanked Heavenly Father that we are Irish and that we were eating Irish food. My heart melted.

Cedrik deliberately didn't wear green.  He thought is was hilarious to be pinched. During his nap time he changed into a green shirt. Freddie decided to wear a different pair of pajama pants, inside out, all day. He didn't wear a shirt until the middle of nap time.  These boys. :)

Then we went on a hunt to find leprechaun gold. Cedrik was very aware that Jordan hid the gold and later he decided to hide some of his own. They ate all of the gold (I couldn't find those chocolate coins, but found some mini resses in gold wrappers and Hershey kisses.

Cedrik painted an Irish flag and then they/we face painted.

We watched Irish dubstep again, read books and listened to Irish music while they laid on me.  During lunch, we ate Irish cheese. We recommend both of them.

After naps (or lack of naps) they found "Irish rocks" (I found the idea on Pinterest, along with almost everything else for the day). It was baking soda mush, that had hardened. They had to "wash" them in vinegar. Fun activity. Cedrik thinks it is really cool they "turned" into pennies.

FUN DAY. The cheese was my favorite part.  :)

Jesus's Sharks

Cedrik came up to me while I was cleaning up dinner.  He had his Thomas rug backpack and a shark in his hand. He was "Elder Darby," which he has recently been playing a lot.  He said he was here to teach me about Jesus.

"So, Jesus was there. The men were there and were killing the sharks for food. Jesus said 'stop. Those are my sharks, don't kill them.'" The men stopped and ate better food.

Me, "what was the better food?"

"Ohhhh, sangwiches (sandwiches) and soup."

Ireland

We learned a lot about Ireland this week.
Taw shay egg curr bosh tee! (It's raining)

On Monday I was really not feeling well.  We still managed to learn about some animals from Ireland (Galway sheep, kerrybog pony). Really fun names. And speaking Irish is fun too. They pretended to be the animals we learned about. We watched a little river dancing and bagpipers and read a book about leprechauns.

Tuesday was really fun. We spent a lot of time glittering and gluing. Cedrik drew two leprechauns and a rainbow (he is really creative).

I wore myself out Tuesday (being sick), so I had to take it easy on Wednesday.  We watched a travel with kids Ireland video and part of a movie called The Secret of Kells. We did not understand the second one, and it seemed pretty intense, so we didn't finish it.

On Thursday we didn't do much.  We went on a hunt for leprechaun gold (Cedrik's request, and he made the map and guided the way.)

On Friday, Shiann (sister-in-law) was having her baby.  I told the boys that holidays are always fun to celebrate and learn about,  but it's best to do nice things for people. So, I made some cookies and we took them to the hospital. The boys loved seeing her and Cedrik wanted to know everything that was in the room.

Today we painted pots that they'll be using on Monday.  :)

Then we went to Sacred Heart school and watched the Boise bagpipers and then, surprisingly, we were able to watch the Killarney Irish Dance Company. I had wanted to watch the dancers earlier in the day but we didn't have time.  I was so excited they were there.  We showed up because we thought it was just a free performance of the bagpipers. But, no. It was a charity event. They wanted $10 a plate. Since we had just eaten they allowed us to go in and sit on the side for free. We felt bad but they were so nice. They even offered us cake. (We graciously declined!)

Cedrik couldn't help but bop his head and clap his hands (to the beat!). There was one boy dancer and Cedrik thought he was awesome. The boy was having the time of his life and had the biggest grin. It was fun to see. They were pretty amazing and Cedrik asked as we were walking out if he could be an Irish dancer.  I would love that.
