Face Lift for the House

Jara and Jim came up from Logan to help strip paint off the brick. It was a seriously long day. They are the best for helping us! The house looks so much better. 

Drifting into Unschooling

We are changing the way we live and learn. We have slowly moved this way, but it feels so right and I feel so directed and finally feel free of so many constraints. 

With this way of life I hope we learn each day in any and every way that we learn best. I hope I truly see my children and learn to love being with them even more than I do. I hope I appreciate my role as a facilitator to their learning instead of a teacher who imparts knowledge that I think is useful and necessary. I have found already that, without prompting from me:

The truck is our place for math skills. The boys repeatedly spout out addition problems.

Cedrik (age 6) has been starting to explore multiplication.

They think workbooks are completely boring. 

They love learning about other cultures and countries. 

Allowing myself time for yoga isn't selfish, it's actually one of the best ways to help the house flow better.

They just want to play.

They don't watch tv all day even though they now have the opportunity. (We did have a couple weeks in which they watched a lot of different things. But, I watched with them! After those few weeks they have calmed down and find many other things to do during the day-especially legos and playing with friends.)

We find what interests us daily, learning from each other and from life. 

We visited Jordan a couple of times to take him lunch while he was working downtown on a piano. The kids liked seeing all the work he was doing and especially loved climbing and jumping off the landing by the building pillars nearby. 

Mimi is exploring the house all day and finding the contents to all drawers in the house. Her favorites are the hair bow drawer, my make-up drawer, and the kid's plastic drawer. They are almost always all over the kitchen floor. 

Cedrik's Six Birthday Celebration

Cedrik's birthday is turning into a celebration like mine. It lasts for days. 

We started with ice cream with Grammy and Grandpa Fox at Delsas. Cedrik had an enormous shake and loved it. John and Shi and Hartley and Clayton also came to celebrate and brought him some new balls to play with. He was so excited. He also received a watch which has been the highlight (well, it tied with roller skates). 

Grandma Smith came back to town for a quick trip to help celebrate. He requested a bowling date with mom and dad. We had a lot of fun and then had chapalas for dinner and a Wild Kratt's ice cream cake (with Wild Kratt's rings). He LOVED the whole day.
