Amphibians & Reptiles

We studied amphibians and started reptiles in the last two weeks.  Cedrik loves learning about animals.  He is especially interested in what they eat. :)

We learned a fun new amphibian song, "newt, newt, salamander, newt."  It was a big hit.  We read, Little Tad Grows Up, Bee Frog, and some research books.  We learned the lifecycle of frogs/toads and salamanders and made some frog eyes, which actually turned out to be more like eggs.  We measured our hops and compared them to how far a frog can hop.

This week we only had school for two days, mainly because I was lazy, but also because we were getting ready for Utah.

We started out with crocodiles.  He cut crocodile cards for his friends in New Hampshire.  His cutting skills have improved so much with only changing to left handed scissors!  We talked about what they eat for a long time.

We then studied snakes and learned some lay eggs, some give birth to "snakelets."  He went on a snake hunt.  He kept the basket covered so they would stay asleep and not bite us and he only handled them from behind their heads.  After, he measured them and lined them up according to their sizes and then we watched a few snake videos on YouTube (including the desert snakes and pythons).  I love YouTube do that I can show him so many
