This week we learned a little about blood.
Freddie constantly asks if there is blood all in his arms so, it was a good time to delve more deeply into it. Although, this may have made him more obsessed with it.
They both wondered if we can live without the blood in our bodies. Freddie fell off his bike this week and scraped his arm. Cedrik really wanted to make sure it wasn't going to bleed out. Then the next morning he hit his eye on the counter and it bled too. Big week.
I asked them what our heart does and they both responded "it beeps!" We learned why it "beeps" and I had to explain why a human heart doesn't look like a Valentine. We talked about the red blood cells and that they are like UPS trucks (still a big deal in our house) and they deliver packages of oxygen around the body. They learned the white blood cells keep us healthy and fight the germs. Watching a magic school bus episode on this helped a ton!
Having a stethoscope in the house came in handy and they were really intrigued with how fast and slow our different hearts beat. Eloise's was the fastest and for some reason Cedrik thought that was hilarious. Jordan's was the slowest.
They drew blood in their bodies and for some reason my body outlines really looked like aliens. (The red on top is Cedriks hair and Freddie wanted to pretend he had red hair too) Every time Freddie draws eyes he has to color the blood in them. He means the blood you can see on our eye lids. And he drew the eyes on his picture-which made it even more alien-esque.
We were able to play outside a lot this week and one day we got the chalk out. Freddie has been talking about what he wants to be for Halloween every day for awhile now. He switches between a blueberry (like the girl from Willie Wonka) and different animals or food. So, with the chalk, we drew on his face with blue. He thought that was cool. Cedrik wanted to be a tiger-the chalk didn't show up as well on him. Then they asked me to draw a human heart-much harder to do than one would think!
We spent Thursday playing outside and cleaning because Sadie and Bryon are staying with us Friday night. It's so nice when the house feels clean. We are all so excited they are coming to visit.
Jordan took the kids on their first bike ride of the year. They don't reach the weight limit when they sit together in the bike attachment-but it is a tight squeeze. Eloise follows them around wherever they go and talks about everything she's seeing-if we only knew what she was saying. One of our favorite things she says is, "guhbughubuh"-belly button.
